If you are looking for a beginner's free resource to learn spanish online with video, I have one for that I recommend. A couple of readers to my Spanish-language learning newsletter have written me and told me about a web site where you can watch interactive videos.

The Videos are called "Destinos." Destinos, is an educational television program created by Bill VanPatten. Mr VanPatten is a former Professor of Spanish and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

The Destinos videos are designed to introduce viewers to the basics of Spanish. Although the Destinos videos are broadcasted regularly on PBS (Public Broadcast Station), you can also watch them at Learner.org

I would describe the videos as "novellas" (soap operas) where at the end of the episode one of the actors or actresses asks you questions in Spanish to see if you really understand what took place in the novela. The site has a total of 52 thirty minute videos. In other words, 26 hours of Spanish-language learning videos. I believe that they have a paid version of their service that includes a textbook and CDs.

By the way, I watched the videos and enjoyed them without using the textbooks and CDs. I actually like their videos better than watching novelas because they are interactive (unlike watching novelas). Another benefit of their videos is that the narrator sprinkles enough English so that beginners can really learn from the videos. At the same time there are plenty of dialogs in Spanish so that the videos are challenging enough for
intermediate students to really improve their listening-comprehension skills.
