There is a huge wealth of resources available online, both free and pay, which guide you through the Spanish learning process more smoothly. The days of textbooks are over with mentally stimulating, interesting and interactive materials becoming the norm. This article provides the top 5 Spanish resources and websites I would personally recommend for beginners.

1 - Real Spanish
This is a great website for Spanish beginners to expand their vocab and learn the basic grammar. There are loads of fun games to play from hangman to word search, making the learning process mentally stimulating and fun. No matter what age you are involving yourself in the activity will improve your recall for new Spanish words and grammar rules so you can start to improve quickly.

2 - Spanish Dict
A really useful website no matter what level you are at. In the first instance if you are looking up any Spanish word you will find a detailed and clear explanation of the context in which it should be used. Where this website improves upon a traditional Spanish dictionary is that it provides common phrases including each term and a range of Spanish synonyms to expand the variety of your vocab. In addition there are a range of vocab flashcards available in the learning area which are very useful to help with remembering the massive amount of vocab you are introduced to in the beginning.

3 - Study Spanish
This is a great website to start learning the ins and outs of Spanish grammar. There are loads of basic and mini quizzes available for free so you can get practicing - there are premium resources also but for a beginner the basic quizzes are enough to start you on your way. The exercises are split into nine units so you can tick off the relevant sections as your Spanish progresses.

4 - Cervantes Virtual - Nivel Inicial
This is probably the best free reading resource I've come across for Spanish beginners. There is an excellent range of short stories which will test beginners but not discourage - there are also comprehension style worksheets accompanying the stories to ensure you are really learning effectively. More reading resources are suggested at http:/www.topspanishtips.weebly.com if you want to expand your reading to other areas such as Spanish blogs and newspaper articles.

5 - Notes in Spanish Podcasts
These podcasts are the best resource for beginners to start listening to Spanish. They start off slowly at the beginners level, presenting a conversation between a Spanish speaking couple whilst explaining new vocab and terms. To start the Spanish listening process you need look no further.
